Flyer & brochure design

for the University of Oxford

Bound booklet, featuring bold graphics and colour, printed economically on low cost uncoated, recycled paper

Every year, the Careers Service of Oxford University holds a number of careers fairs. These are major events in the University's calendar, each attended by hundreds of students and 30-50 recruiters – from huge multinational firms such as PricewaterhouseCoopers, Shell and KPMG to small- and medium-sized employers.

Featured here is printed publicity material we produced for the Work Experience Fair (one of many fairs for which we provided design).

The thinking behind the design

Students at Oxford University receive many flyers – advertising everything from club nights to corporate events, fundraisers to evensongs.

The postcard for the Work Experience Fair was designed to stand out amongst this deluge – hence the high-contrast artwork – but also to be cheap to produce. We used only two-colour printing, substantially more economical than full colour, and printed onto uncoated, rough recycled paper/card.

As opposed to the sector-specific careers fairs (Management Consulting, Financial Services, Law etc), the Work Experience Fair is for students at an earlier stage in their time at university, who may be unsure of their career plans. We judged that an informal design style was best for such an audience – who might be put off by an overly corporate appearance.
